We wrote "Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire)" around the time of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the ensuing environmental catastrophe. This isn't to say that the song is about this event, but was informed by the general tone of disaster -- the feeling of impossible scale, the way the oil slowly crept across the ocean floor in hellish slow-motion, that sense of an unstoppable thrust towards darkness...
